DLS-CSB SDEAS Visits Cebu and Bohol Deaf Communities After Quake

The De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies (DLS-CSB SDEAS) in partnership with the Center for Counseling Services (CCS) visited Cebu and towns of Bohol to provide a series of psychosocial support to the victims of the recent earthquake. The team was composed of two CCS counselors and two Deaf facilitators and provided intervention to at least 70 Deaf and Hearing Kids and Youth participants in Cebu, Tagbilaran and Sagbayan.

The visit to Cebu and Bohol from October 27-October 31st, 2013 was made possible through the funding of the Lasallian Ministry and Student Life and the assistance of Center for Lasallian Ministry and the Center for Social Action. This is in collaboration with  collaboration with Gualandi Volunteer Service Programme, Inc. (GVSP).

The team’s main goal is to provide psycho-social intervention to these identified Deaf populations in Cebu and in Bohol through stress and psychological debriefing. This is to reduce the adverse effects of the earthquake which could have resulted to great stress and trauma to this sector. The team also assisted these survivors and helped them fully understand and realize that there is hope amidst these personal threat experiences.
