JOIN THE CAUSE
is a photo petition for peace in the Philippines. We: 1) declare our support for the peace talks; and 2) urge everyone (government, rebel groups, etc.) to declare September 21 as universal ceasefire day.
GIVE PEACE A SHOT: PEACE PHOTO PETITION
Give Peace a Shot: Peace Photo Petition is a national campaign run by Generation Peace Youth Network (GenPeace), a network of organizations and individuals engaging a youth-led advocacy towards a just and sustainable peace, seeks the support and voices of at least 10,000 individuals for peace through a photo petition where the supporters hold placards of their calls for the peace processes. The campaign is in connection with the International Day of Peace Celebration 2011, a gathering of individuals, peace and human rights advocates and other sectors celebrating peace (visit www.genpeace.tk for details).
The campaign focuses on the Philippine Peace Process. While the main stakeholders are engaged in negotiations, discussing important issues such as socio-economic reforms and self determination, GenPeace affirms the importance of raising public’s awareness about the peace issues, addressing the prevailing misconceptions and drawing in more active peace constituency especially among the youth. The campaign also calls for stakeholders to recognize September 21 as the Day of Ceasefire and Non-Violence.
The campaign seeks to build popular support among individuals and other personalities from different backgrounds (i.e. artists, iconic celebrities, etc.) to have their voice heard on the peace process.
The Give Peace a Shot: Peace Photo Petition will be implemented nationwide and will run from September – December 2011 where supporters will contribute their photos while holding placards of their calls for the peace process. The Give Peace a Shot: Peace Photo Petition will be replicated in all local peace day celebrations of local partners. The photo petition will also have an online component where Facebook – Give Peace a Shot: Peace Photo Petition (www.facebook/givepeaceashot) and its own blog - www.givepeaceashot.wordpress.com will be the repository of the endorsers’ photos. The gathered photos will be presented to the different agencies under the GPH, and the leadership of the MILF and the NDF.
