1st PWD Employers Conference



DLS-CSB hosts the 1st PWD Employers Conference

De La Salle–College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) hosted Building Bridges, Creating Opportunities 2012: The 1st PWD Employers Conference at the Angelo King International Center, last May 2, 2012.

The conference encouraged awareness of the issues and the challenges faced by Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) and their current employment situation in the Philippines. It also called for the understanding of the advantages of employing PWDs and the government’s incentives to inclusive companies.

Spearheaded by DLS-CSB’s School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies–Center for Partnership and Development (SDEAS-CPD), Br. Victor Franco, FSC, Chancellor and President of DLS-CSB welcomed the participants of the conference followed by the Keynote speaker Hon. Teodoro Casino, Representative, Bayan Muna Partylist.

Mr. Noli Agcaoili, Mr. Mateo Lee was joined by Mr. Danny Crisologo in an open forum. Several companies like Makati Shangri-la, Hewlett Packard, Global Payments Inc., and Hinduja Global Solutions talked about their experiences with employing PWDs and the challenges they overcame in order to create an accessible and barrier-free working environment.

Mackie Calbay, the coordinator of the Deaf Advocacy Program of SDEAS-CPD and a PWD working professional, encouraged companies to realize the value of hiring PWDs as he talked about the success stories of numerous PWDs and highlighted their loyal and hard-working personality – of which PWDs are known for. He also persuaded co-PWDs that with knowledge, competent skills, the right attitude, plus an integration of values in life, anything is possible.
