Junior SDEAS Students hold 'DeaFilipiNow' Exhibit


Last April 2, 2013, 3rd year SDEAS students opened their Exhibit entitled "Deaf FilipiNow" as one of the course requirements for the subjects Filipino Deaf Community (FIDECOM) and Introduction to Econmics (INTECOM). The ribbon cutting ceremony was preceded by Dean Ma. Veronica Templo Perez, Academics Chairperson Leonides Sulse and Deaf Advocacy Coordinator Mackie Calbay. The exhibit features various Deaf communities, communicating in sign language and Deaf Culture.


Ms. Ma Tess Buenaventura and Ms. Noemi Lacambacal oversees exhibit preparations.

The exhibit featured Deaf Education history and populations, mock elections, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Persons with Disabilities statements for the Deaf, Filipino Hearing and Deaf cultures, understanding Deaf Identity, learning Filipino Sign Language, and Filipino Deaf Leaders and Movers.

The exhibit was held from April 2-5, 2013, 9:00am to 5:00pm, at the Greenway Square of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde’s Taft Campus.

Through this the students hope to make more people aware of the Filipino Deaf Life which includes economic, political and socio-cultural aspects and also to know more about the Deaf World. This is a way of advocating for the Filipino Deaf Community.
